So everyone who has gone through a fairway/hybrid fitting with me knows the significant benefits of a titanium faced fairway metal. The ball comes off with speeds similar to a driver and due to the lighter weight of the titanium face more weight and mass can be moved around the smaller head to dramatically increase forgiveness. Until now there were only two manufacturers who offer titanium fairway metals – Adams Golf and Tour Edge Exotics. Ping is now releasing this beast which unlike the other two (XTD & XCG7) has a much deeper face so that it can easily double as a driver off the tee for those tight drives. Perhaps the biggest benefit is its ultra thin Ti 8-1-1-1 face that is 30% stronger than traditional titanium. A heavy Tungsten sole weight is built into the bottom which lowers the CG to provide more optimum launch while being placed more forward towards the face to reduce spin. This is a great club for those of you who can’t figure out why you hit your 3 wood off the tee straighter and almost as far as your driver – now hit it farther than your driver both on the tee or off the deck.
