So Adams will soon be releasing the new XTD Iron which is primarily built for distance. It will feature a much thinner face (as do all the new game improvement irons) but this thin face will be supported/enhanced by a “Cross Cavity” for added feel and sound. Unlike most other game improvement irons built for distance, I like the fact that the XTD will have more traditional lofts but will still produce added distance.
When your shopping for new irons this spring take a serious look at the iron lofts. Pretty much everyone is touting their equipment as “the longest” but I guess so if the 6 iron has the loft of a traditional weak 4 iron. Those strong lofts are great until you get into the scoring irons. What the heck do you do with a pitching wedge with 44 degrees of loft? Do you now have to carry 5 wedges (44-48-52-56-60)?
