Peter Michael Hodson went to be with his heavenly father on September 25, 2022. He was born March 26, 1937 in London, England to Bert and Elizabeth Hodson. Peter is survived by his loving wife Georgena Hodson, whom he married in 1959; his children, Stephen, Andrew (Michelle); and grandchildren Marley, Drew, and Serena. Although Peter was born in London, his extended family and ancestors still hail from the beautiful Risca Wales.
Peter was a retired Golf Professional and member of both the British and U.S. Professional Golfers Associations (P.G.A.) for over 65 years, interrupted only by his two year military obligation (1955-1957) with the Royal Air Force (R.A.F.). Peter dedicated his life to his family and the grand old game of golf. He was a coach, teacher, and in retirement volunteered a large portion of his time with the Links to Freedom Foundation’s Rehabilitation Golf Program at Fort Belvoir.
Peter came to the U.S.A from England in 1961 with his wife, Georgena. He worked as the Golf Professional at the Williamsburg Country Club until 1964, then he and his family moved to Richmond when he took the position of Assistant Golf Professional to Jack Isaacs at Willow Oaks Country Club. In 1971 Peter assumed the role of Head Golf Professional, which he proudly served until 1989. His chosen path from that day forward was golf course construction, re-construction, and management, with numerous accomplishments along the way.
Peter’s philosophy on life could be best summed up as follows:
– Hunter S. Thompson
As was his general nature, Peter never shied away from a challenge, even up to the end, with his failing health. The family of Peter would like to extend a special thanks to the heroes at Sheltering Arms and the Laurels of Bon Air, for all they have done.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 Wednesday, October 5 at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road where a Celebration of his life will follow at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Links to Freedom Foundation, 5623 Bellington Avenue, Springfield, VA 22151 www.linkstofreedom.org (501 non-profit tax i.d. 474197423).
